Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO for short, is a set of methods aimed at improving the rankings for a website within the search engines listings. SEO could be seen as a subset of Search Engine Marketing (SEM). SEO is "free" in the sense of you are competing for free listings within the search engines. In SEM campaigns Search Engine Optimisation is usually used in a combination with Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising which represents the paid listings in the search engines results.
